Since my very first AALAS meeting in 1993, I could see that AALAS was the key organization for laboratory animal science professionals. Since then, I have had the pleasure of attending many more national meetings and getting involved with the AALAS organization. As an Alternate Trustee, I intend to support and promote the tradition that brings together people from across the research field, including technicians, researchers, vendors, and veterinarians, to create a forum for education and discussion. One important area is AALAS’s continued efforts to expand resources for continuing education, career development, and networking so that laboratory animal professionals can fulfill all their required training or learn new skills from one respected source on their own schedule. The AALAS Learning Library, LASPro, and the other publications deserve continued support and updates to keep up with the changing world of laboratory animal science. I’ve met some of my best friends through AALAS and have developed a network of personal contacts that I can reach out to for questions large and small. Through AALAS and in my work role, I recognize the value of creating connections and building together. I am excited for the opportunity to represent the West as the District 8 Alternate Trustee.
